The Confidence Advantage: Why Public Speaking Skills Matter for Children

Many parents focus heavily on academic success—and for good reason.

Strong math, reading, and writing skills are essential for future achievement.

But there is another skill that often determines whether children are able to fully apply those academic abilities in school and later in life:

The ability to communicate confidently.

At Best Brains, we are excited to offer an 8-week Public Speaking Session beginning June 17th, designed to help students strengthen one of the most valuable lifelong skills they can develop.

Wednesdays | 5:30–7:00 PM | June 17 – August 5

Why Public Speaking Matters So Much

Public speaking is about far more than standing in front of a crowd.

It teaches children how to:

  • Organize their thoughts
  • Speak clearly and confidently
  • Express ideas effectively
  • Think critically under pressure
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Build self-confidence

These are skills that benefit students in:

  • School presentations
  • Classroom participation
  • Group projects
  • Interviews
  • Leadership opportunities
  • Future careers

Children who can communicate confidently often feel more capable in many areas of life.

Confidence Is Built Through Practice

Many children feel nervous speaking in front of others.

That is completely normal.

Confidence in communication is not something children are simply born with—it is something that develops through guided practice and positive experiences.

Our Public Speaking Session provides students with:

  • A supportive environment
  • Encouragement from experienced instructors
  • Structured speaking activities
  • Opportunities to practice regularly

As students become more comfortable expressing themselves, their confidence often grows both inside and outside the classroom.

Strong Communication Supports Academic Success

Public speaking also strengthens important academic skills.

When students practice speaking, they improve:

  • Vocabulary
  • Organization of ideas
  • Reading comprehension
  • Listening skills
  • Critical thinking

Students learn how to explain concepts clearly, support their ideas, and communicate more effectively overall.

These abilities can positively impact performance across multiple subjects—not just language arts.

An Important Skill in Today’s World

In an age where many children communicate primarily through screens and text messages, face-to-face communication skills are becoming increasingly valuable.

Students who can:

  • Speak confidently
  • Maintain eye contact
  • Present ideas clearly
  • Engage with others respectfully

Often stand out in both academic and social settings.

Public speaking helps children become not only stronger students, but stronger communicators and future leaders.

Why Summer Is the Perfect Time

Summer provides children with the opportunity to grow in ways that are sometimes difficult during the busy school year.

Without the pressure of daily homework and testing, students can focus on:

  • Personal growth
  • Confidence building
  • Skill development

Our summer Public Speaking Session is designed to be:

  • Engaging
  • Encouraging
  • Interactive
  • Developmentally appropriate

Students will build skills gradually over the course of the 8-week program while having fun in the process.
