From youngest Rising Readers of grade 1st to Word Masters of grade 8th,  we are so incredibly proud of the dedication each child has. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to showcase their language skills and have a blast competing with their peers.

 *Competition Details

·        >Round 1: Initial Elimination Round

Format: A written, standard dictation test using grade-level words.

Where: Right here at our local Best Brains center.

When (Choose one session):

Saturday, August 22nd | 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM

Friday, August 28th | 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM

New option is added --->>>>  Satuday AUG 29 (ONLINE over zoom) - 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.

·      >Round 2: The Grand Finals

Format: Top finalists will compete live on stage!

When: Sunday, September 13th during our Annual Contests showcase.

Format

·        Qualifying Round: Students spell grade-level words. Top scorers advance based on correct answers.

·        Finalist Round: Top scorers compete live on stage.

·        Qualifying Round: At the contestant's Best Brains center (or the chosen center on the registration form for non-students). Added one more option - ONLINE over zoom. 

·        Finalist Round: National India Hub, 930 National Parkway, Schaumburg, IL.

o   Saturday, August 22nd from 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM

o   Friday, August 28th from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM

·        Finalist Round: September 13th (Attendance is mandatory for elimination round winners).

·        Who: Children entering 1st through 8th grade. Open to both Best Brains students and non-students.

Preparation

·        No supplemental study materials are provided.

·        Best Brains students can rely on their weekly spelling tests.

·        Non-students can prepare by reading daily.

Spelling Bee FAQ

1. Do the participants get to see the word list in advance?

Competition includes unseen words.

Pronouncer reads the word, gives the definition and repeats the word. 

2. Where will the Spelling Bee be held? You can come in person at your local center or take it online on the given schedule.

Final round will be on stage on Sep 13th, 2026 at National India Hub.

3. Who can participate in the Spelling Bee?

·        Grades: Open to all children entering 1st through 8th grade.

·        Eligibility: Open to both current Best Brains students and non-students. Friends, classmates, and family members are welcome!

5. How can my child prepare for the competition?

·        For Best Brains Students: Your child’s regular vocabulary and phonics training at Best Brains have already built a strong foundation! Reviewing root words and language patterns will give them an extra edge.

·        For Non-Best Brains Students: Welcome! We recommend practicing high-frequency grade-level words and focusing on phonetics and clear pronunciation.

 

6. What else should I know about the Spelling Bee structure?

·        It sharpens vocabulary, word comprehension, and public presentation skills.

·        It builds immense confidence by teaching students to perform under pressure.

·        Focuses on spelling strategies, phonics rules, and etymology (word origins).

 

7. Do we need to bring any supplies?

Yes. Please ensure your child brings pencils, an eraser, and a clipboard for the written rounds.
